"Binaural
Beats" is a logical follow up for "Music With Analog Improvised
Soundscapes"-CD. This time the main point is not in improvisation
(Marraskuu is the only composition on this CD that is based on improvisation).
Music on "Binaural Beats" is more composed and there are more
different instruments than before. Main instruments are again analog synthesizers
(Roland SH101, Prophet Pro-1, Crumar Performer, Akai EWI) but there are
also acoustic instruments, human speak and virtual instruments.
Although the music has not been created from collective improvisation the principle of improvisation is still behind all these new compositions. Many times the compositions started when we were improvising with the simple but musically effective user interfaces of the synthesizers. Simple sequencers and arpeggiators of Roland SH101 and Prophet Pro-1 were big inspirational tools when composing this music. Limitations of these simple instruments helped to focus on most important thing, the music. Also when using modern recording techniques it is possible to over come most of these limitations and create music with polyphony and multitimbrality (all those things that modern keyboard workstations come as standard). So why should you use these simple machines with all those restrictions ? Simply because this way you can consentrate to music and forget all those complex user interfaces, various options and properties and bugs on the software/hardware. "Binaural Beats" contains in real and virtual forms large
collection of major synthesizer models (Moog, Korg, Roland, Hammond,
Sequential,ARP). "Binaural Beats" is a digital distribution
release and can be loaded from CD
